The establishment of the Church was conceived by EFAC Oke-Afa under the leadership of Bro. Paul Ebigwe in 2012 to ease the burden of worshipers who then had to find their ways from here to
Oke-Afa every Sunday to worship.
It then started with a three days crusade at Sir K Block from 15th-17th of March, 2012 to create awareness and sensitization for the new born Church. The accomodation was provided by Bro. Henry
Etumni who gave his compound at Siratu Opebiyi Street free of charge.
The first Sunday service was held on the 18th of March, 2012 which was also Mothering Sunday. The first was conducted by Ord. Daniel Onyeagba under a rented canopy with an attendance of 68 persons
inclusive of EFAC members from Oke-Afa.
Evang. Parick Torti was appointed as the coordinator of the church assisted by Evang. James Okeke, who took over in November 2014.
The Church continued to worship under a rented canopy until a plea fro assistance by James Okeke to EFAC leadership at a meeting at Holy Trinity Abaranje touched their hearts. A temporary building with
wooden pillars was subsequently put up by EFAC and a combined effort of the baby church and the Nascent men's Christian Fellowship took it to the next level.
To ensure a smooth take off, the EFAC constituted a caretaker committee comprising of Mr. Samuel Izundu, Mrs Kate Onekanma, Pauline Okolie, Udoka Iyiegbu and others were coopted much later.
The first vestry meeting of the church was conducted under the supervison of Ven. Chiedu Ekpunobi our then Supervising Priest, who was represented by Rev. Emmanuel Iherome on the 19th of February, 2014.
The first set of leaders that emerged from that vestry meeting include Mr. Samuel Izundu (Elected Warden), Mr. Chukwudi Dim (Appointed Warden), Mrs Pauline Okolie (Church Secretary), Mrs Ogoma Eloraba (Auditor),
While Mrs Peace Okeke was the church registrar.
The first Holy Communion Service was conducted by Ven. Chiedu Ekpunobi in 2014, while the first visit by then Archdeacon Ven. Johnson Adebiyi took place on the 26th of April, 2015.
It was during that visit that the Diocesan prophetically named the church - The Anglican Church of Redemption in line with the name we have been calling our church - The Redemption Arena
Our vision as ACRW is to be the leading Diocese in the Church of Nigeria in preparing this Nation for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
